Schladming
08 World Cup Final
Sam wins in Austria, not the Sam you were expecting though…
Sam Blenkinsop surprised a few people by winning the World Cup
Final in Schladming, The young Kiwi was expected to crack his
first podium this weekend but winning the qualifying and final
proved his consistency on this track.
Blenkinsop and Team mate Leov in 6th both binned the Shimano’s
and fitted Penthouse Flats. Check the pictures below and see the
Penthouse Flats on his bike,
pretty cool for us to get our first world cup win for the pedals.
Its cool when someone who is sponsored by another brand chooses
your stuff and even better when they win a World Cup on it!
Brendan Fairclough had the fastest split but crashed coming out
of the final wood section, shame for Brendog but every dog has
its day.

Kovarik took a big digger in the technical wood section and landed
with his stomach on a stump. I feel more sorry for the stump it’ll
have some hellish brusin tommorow. It’ll ache for days,
maybe even weeks.
Even so its his best season for two years and
he will be back next year with a point to prove.
Chain Reaction Cycles Intense Rider Matt Simmonds had a big crash
on the first big step down, knocking himself out and injuring
a cameraman in the process. The Hospital want to keep him in overnight
for observation. Ruraidh Cunningham had a good qualifier in 10th
but laid it down in the finals,
the story of his season but he’ll be back fully fit for
09. He goes under the doctors knife this Wednesday for the troublesome
knee injury that has plagued him all year.
Without doubt the Rookie of the year has to go to Yeti/Fox Shocks
Aaron Gwin,
managed 8th in only his 3rd ever World Cup. Amazing, I don’t
think any rider has come from know where like this since Palmer.
So roll on 09, I’m sure it will be a crazy year. Sam Blenkinsop
to Join Martin Whiteleys new Trek team along side Tracey Hannah.
Return of Mick Hannah on the same team? Some talk of half a million
Euro’s as the budget. Sam Hill on Specialized? Scott and
Giant are both looking for riders next season as the both intend
on having a big world cup teams again.
