For the short time Llangollen has been going as a race track I feel it has already become a firm favourite with racers who want to be tested. The race venues steepness makes an incredible track to compete on.
We arrived on Friday night to be met with wales finest mineral water falling out of the sky. The Burgtec truck was not loving the wet conditions in the pit area. After 1 attempt to make it to our designated pit area we aborted. We parked up where we could and hit the hay for the night.
With the memory of Glencoe cancellation fresh/scarred in peoples mind we needed a dry race. The Saturday started out wet and muddy and first down the hill were the likes of Sam Dale and Josh Bryceland. Not your natural puddle chasers I know but the grins on their faces told me that they were enjoying the course.
The weather slowly got better on Saturday with the occasional shower. The uplift on the other hand didn’t fair so well with 4 runs being the average for the day. It’s a tricky situation with the tight roads at Llangollen. I know this was some riders reason for not doing the race as they felt it wasn’t value for money.
Race day and the conditions started to heat up nicely. The sun beamed down and a steady stream of spectators started to fill the trackside eagerly awaiting some of the worlds best downhillers of the moment. It was a stacked British field with only Gee and Slugger missing.
Peaty was riding with a bust hand and was strapped up but you could see by his qaully time he was not riding well.
Could Al Bond the surprise package of the 2011 Bds do well? He qualified 5th.
What could Brendan do here? A track he has won on before
If you don’t know that Danny Hart is rding well at the moment you must have been under a very soundproof rock. He was flying qualifying 1st. Danny looked like he really wanted to prove a point at national level after the success on the World Cup circuit.
When it came down to the race the boys from Burgtec smashed it with Josh
and Sam coming in 1st and 2nd respectively. Danny came 3rd I know he was disappointed with that but maybe he just over cooked it a little.
Great weekend racing, glad the weather held up bring on the National Champs at Llangollen!
1st Josh Bryceland
2nd Sam Dale
3rd Danny Hart
4th Joe Smith
5th Matti Leikohan
